Kaleidoscope (Copy)

The design has four elements in play.

1. The viewer will be mesmerised by looking through the Kaleidoscope of mirrors. Beautiful patterns will be taking shape and flowing in front of their eyes.
2. The viewer will be able to spin the four cog wheels, which make the Kaleidoscope experience come to life. Anyone can spin these, including children, as they will be engineered to turn with little effort. Natural sunlight will make the colours shine.
3. As the cog wheels spin, sounds will emanate from wind-chimes within, activated as the cogs spin.
4. The last playful part of the installation will be a display of patterns and light projecting through the cog wheels onto the surrounding space behind the Kaleidoscope.

Artwork Sustainability

The installation uses natural light during the day, and the cogs are hand turned by the viewer, thereby needing no additional power source. At night, low energy LED and Ultra Violet lights are used to create an equally stunning effect. I have tried to keep the installation sustainably sourced, with a low carbon footprint by using local materials wherever possible; the frame is made from sustainable wood and recycled steel. I will be using some upcycled coloured acrylic for the colourful shapes to be attached to the steel cog wheels. All lighting will be LED IP rated.
